The Vegetarian Society Approved trademarks are symbols you will see on thousands of products in shops all over the UK, EU, USA and many other countries.
Our trademarks encourage consumers to choose your products when they are shopping. 82% of shoppers (YouGov UK Plc 3/23) would prefer to see our accreditation symbol on product packaging, rather than reading through an ingredient list.

Which Trademark to use?
Luckily with the Vegetarian Society accreditations it is not Plant-Based vs Vegan. Which one(s) you use depends on how you want to market your products.
The trademarks are identical with vegan as a minimum and the Plant-Based TM (PBTM) has one extra criterion which is “plants must be the characterising ingredient”.
We give the general guidance if the target market is broad, lead with the PBTM on front of product packaging to attract that broad audience and put the Vegan trademark on the back to reassure vegans that it is suitable for them.

We can check a product to see if it meets the vegan trademark criteria and also check to see if plants are the characterising ingredient at the same time. Then we can issue the vegan trademark or both the vegan trademark and the PBTM. Because this is one set of checks, we’ll charge one price and can then issue two certifications if you require this.
